All of these books emphasized self-help and outlined programs of changes in health habits and how to succeed with them. Shirley Linde is a best-selling author of medical books, many involved with diet and other lifestyle changes. She wrote her PhD thesis on patient motivation and has authored or co-authored many books including Dr. Atkins' Superenergy Diet with Dr. Robert Atkins (New York Times best-seller, over a million copies sold); The Charleston Program with Bariatric-physician-of-the-year Dr. Robert Johnson (a diet book that sold more than 500,000 copies); No More Sleepless Nights with Dr. Peter Hauri of Mayo Clinic (book on insomnia and other sleep disorders that sold more than 100,000 copies); Lifegain -- Change your Health and Your Life with Dr. Robert Allen, wellness motivator and change expert; and The Whole Health Catalogue, a pioneering book on patients taking charge of their health.

Book1. Why Johnny Can't Breathe

The incidence of allergies and asthma is increasing alarmingly. Why? Hundreds of thousands of parents are worrying over their kids' allergies.  M
ore than 50 million Americans suffer from various types of allergies. The highest prevalence is in children. Some 15 million Americans suffer from asthma,  most often caused by allergies.  Astoundingly, asthma kills about 5,000 Americans each year, and is the number one cause for hospitalization among children! This book will tell them about the many symptoms that could be due to hidden allergies, and will give the readers a Whole Health Anti-Allergy Plan with advice on what can be done about the condition.

Contents will include food allergies, insect allergies, skin allergies, hayfever, drug allergies. Allergies of infants. Allergies of childhood. The asthmatic child. Chronic bronchitis.  Pollen, dust mites, mold, pet dander,  medicines, food allergies. Allergic headache, earache, cough, mouth breathing, sinus trouble,  and other symptoms. New guidelines of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The Anti-Allergy Treatment Plan. How to allergy-proof your kid’s room and your house. Cigarette smoke.  Does vitamin C help? Vitamin D? Other herbs and supplements. What about Acupuncture and other Complementary Therapies?  Latest research (For example, vitamin D insufficiency has recently been linked to a 50 percent increase in the risk of severe asthma attacks in children in a Harvard study). Helping to prevent the allergic child from becoming an allergic adult.

Book 2.  You Don’t Have to Be Tired …The Whole Health High Energy Plan
A complete program including both emotional and physical aspects. The program steps would include a high energy diet, judicious use of herbs and supplements, exercise, getting best sleep for better energy, reducing stress, and advice on working with your doctor to find other possible causes. I wrote on the psychological aspects of fatigue in a well-received article for Good Housekeeping and I personally saw the increased energy effects of diet change when I was co-author of Dr. Atkins' Superenergy Diet that sold a million copies. This will be a comprehensive approach to an ever-prevalent problem. Everybody is tired it seems and is a potential reader.

Book 3. Secrets of the Diet Doctors --Strategies of the World's Most Famous Diet Doctors and How to Make Them Work for You.
Linde, a best-selling author who has worked with noted diet doctors, tells the secrets of these doctors and puts them together in a coordinated plan to help you  make your diet program successful. Tips, techniques, and inside advice on how they helped their patients lose weight, lower cholesterol and become healthier.
Secrets of the Diet Doctors would have one chapter per doctor for about 20 or so experts, with each focusing on one aspect of a good diet plan. This would include Linde's days with Dr. Atkins and other diet doctors and what she learned as she wrote with them and about them and would have dramatic patient stories including celebs, and give details of their strategies and tips for losing weight, decreasing cholesterol and triglycerides, and becoming healthier. Linde worked with many of these doctors and reported for years on research on diet.

Subjects covered by the diet doctors would include: Setting goals and getting motivated. How to take charge of your health and your diet. Finding the strategy that works best for you. Choosing foods. Herbs and supplements and what they can do. Recent r
esearch shows that overweight persons with increased intake of vitamin D lost more weight on a diet than others. Traditional Chinese Medicine approaches including latest information on green tea and Wu-Yi tea. What you are drinking - facts on water, coffee, tea, sugar, sodas, energy drinks, dairy, alcohol. Peer support – diet buddies, diet teams. Changing the culture around you so following your diet is no longer a hassle. Still having problems? Possibilities to discuss with your physician. Medicines that could be a problem.

Special advice for helping overweight children. How to help help a child -- Michele Obama’s program.Advice for school kitchens on how to cook healthy for school lunches and have the kids like it.

Box inserts with short helpful advice such as oatmeal benefits for lowering cholesterol, an exercise to reduce waistline, some diet doctors’ favorite recipes, helpful websites such as WeightLossBuddy.com, recipes with fresh organic foods using the principles in the book, motivation videos available of MD’s, psychologists, and life coaches, celebrity quotes, all interspersed for compelling page design.

Book 4.  Change Your Habits, Change Your Life
How to break old habits and make the lifestyle changes you want to make. Included would be advice on diet, exercise, stress and proven behavioral techniques to actually accomplish healthy changes. How to get past the past. How to take charge of your health, and your life. Applying tested behavioral change techniques to everyday life. This would be written with Judd Allen, well-known in corporate wellness programs.

This book can be focussed for adults, teenagers, or families, outlining the power they can have over their own health choices and life decisions. If done specifically for kids, this would be a natural for pediatricians to give to their young patients and for being referred to by the government and the media in the current outreach to overcome the frightening condition of obesity in today’s youth. How to be hip, not hippy; fit not fat; then continuing on with advice for all kids on changing habits they want to change. The same principles as the adult book, targeted to children to help them with their decision-making in relation to needed lifestyle changes for both weight-loss and better health.
